Ancient History – Greece

History: it’s not always everyone’s favorite subject. The word “boring” has been said about history class quite a bit. That’s where Exploring Ancient History comes in! In this
class, students will be exposed to different Ancient Civilizations and have the opportunity to create projects to give a deeper understanding of each civilization.

This packet contains a lesson that covers the Ancient Greece time period in ancient history for students ages 10 and up. These lessons can be done independently from other Exploring Ancient History lessons by Let’s Homeschool Together. However, it is recommended to get all the classes in order to get a fuller understanding of different civilizations throughout ancient history.
Each class should take approximately one hour. Keep in mind; this may vary, depending on class size and student interests. This is where the additional resources listed in each lesson will be useful. They allow for a deeper exploration of each topic for those students who are very interested, or for those classes that are able to meet for longer than one hour.

Lesson focus:

In this lesson students will discuss “What is a civilization?” (if they haven’t already completed another Exploring Ancient History lesson.)  They will then analyze the influence of Ancient Greece on modern times, and end with playing a game involving Greek root words.

Each lesson is formatted into the following sections:

Materials: At the beginning of each lesson is a checklist of materials. Please read the lesson in its entirety to ensure that you purchase the correct materials and quantities for your class.

Teacher Prep: This section has a checklist of items for teachers to complete prior to class. This may include printing worksheets or preparing classroom activities.

Let’s Learn: The Let’s Learn section is the main part of your lesson. This is where you will find the information to teach your students. It is written so you can read the “lecture” to your students. Included in all let’s learn sections are notes for you to be able to fully explain the historical details to your students. Also included directly in the lesson are discussion questions to make the lesson portion more interactive for students.

Let’s Do: The Let’s Do section is the part of the lesson where students get to interact and get hands-on! We have created a variety of projects to help students connect with what they are learning. Please make sure you read all the instructions for the activities prior to class.

Let’s Wrap It Up: This is a short section at the end of each lesson that includes discussion questions to review what the students have covered that day. It may also include instructions for specific projects as needed.

Let’s Learn More: This last section is a list of additional resources, such as books, videos, alternative projects, and extension projects for each lesson. Be sure to always preview any videos prior to showing them to students.
